Workplace Representation (Ordinary Branch Members)

For workers belonging to unionized companies under NTWU, the Union handles all industrial matters for the Ordinary Branch members. Examples would include negotiation of collective agreements, grievance handling for cases of termination, dismissal, retrenchment, etc.

Employment-Related Assistance (General Branch Members)

For employees working in the transport industry whose company is not unionized, we provide employment advice through various avenue such as our membership assistance hotline, or the online platform Aunt Iris.

Job Opportunities and Skills Upgrading

Lifelong employability is a key objective of the labour movement.

Thus, as a union member, you enjoy 80 to 90% course subsidies on courses offered by NTUC.  Members looking for a job, or are keen in skills enhancement may approach the Employability Coach at the Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) for assistance.

Through the help of NTUC Union Training Assistance Programme, UTap, NTWU supports members in their skills upgrading effort by subsidizing course fees for approved training programmes by up to $250 per member per year. The NTUC-SEP programme offers certification to diplomas in fields like IT, business, management and operations.

Insurance Coverage

NTUC-GIFT is a group insurance plan that comes FREE with the union membership.

This group insurance plan covers members for death and total permanent disability (TPD) for up to $30,000. Plus, the coverage is also extended to a member’s spouse and pays up to $500 for Death or PTD.

Similar to NTUC GIFT, NTUC-LUV covers for death and total permanent disability (TPD). On top of that, LUV also covers union members for partial permanent disability, 30 different critical illnesses (includes stroke, heart attack, cancer) and also hospitalization cash benefits. This term life insurance policy has the lowest premium in town. Its coverage is one of the highest as LUV covers for up to $ 200,000 for death and TPD and is hassle free because it requires no health examination for application.

Welfare & Financial Assistance

(a) NTWU Education Grant and Achievement Awards

NTWU rewards our members’ children who have done well academically through education grants and achievement awards, amounting to about $120,000 per year. Every year, more than 400 students benefit from this scheme.

(b) Health Screening

Annual health screening is at $10 per member, and it includes testing for cholesterol levels.

(c) Back-to-School Vouchers

As a union member, each of your schooling children are eligible to apply for Back-to-School vouchers worth $125. These vouchers can be used to purchase textbooks, uniforms, spectacles from school bookshops, authorized uniform suppliers, BATA and many more.

(d) U-Stretch Vouchers

Each voucher is a 50% discount off a minimum of $5 purchase from 6 NTUC Social Enterprises - NTUC Club, NTUC Eldercare, NTUC FairPrice, NTUC Foodfare, NTUC Healthcare and NTUC Link.

(e) Family Recreation and Fun Carnival (FRF)

Six times a year, the FRF not only gives members & their family members FREE admission to Wild Wild Wet, Escape Theme Park and eXplorerkid, food vouchers and a lucky draw coupon, there will also be stage games, performances in D’Marquee and unlimited free play at the carousel, Ferris wheel and other games and activities in D’Tent. Exclusive goodie bags are also given out to union members and their family members!

(f) Singapore Labour Foundation Hardship Grant

The SLF Hardship Grant of $1,000 are administered by the NTUC Care and Share Department, given to families of union members who pass away from chronic illnesses, or become incapacitated.

(g) Singapore Labour Foundation Special Relief Fund

The SLF Special Relief Fund of up to $4,000 aims to provide financial assistance to victims of industrial accidents during interim period before they receive their Workmen’s Compensation.
